Date: November 17, 12:00 Location: Max Planck House, Tübingen, Seminar Room Registration: Sign up here
The upcoming talk “LGBTQIA+ Employees in the Workplace and Their Allies” will address key issues surrounding inclusion, identity, and allyship in professional environments. The event will explore how LGBTQIA+ individuals navigate questions of openness at work, as well as how colleagues and institutions can foster supportive and respectful spaces.
While “coming out” is often seen as a single, personal event, it can be a recurring process throughout one’s life and career. In Europe, only about half of LGBTQIA+ employees report being open about their identity with at least one colleague. This talk will shed light on such realities and offer practical insights on how to respond appropriately when someone shares their identity, use inclusive language, and recognize and counteract microaggressions in the workplace.
Speaker: Cécile Deprez (they/them), scientific researcher at the German Aerospace Center (DLR), will lead the session. Beyond their technical expertise in satellite positioning and orbit determination, Deprez is an active public speaker and advocate for diversity and inclusion. They have delivered talks at universities, companies, and conferences on topics such as sexism, intersectionality, and LGBTQIA+ allyship. Deprez is also involved in several initiatives, including Pépite Sexiste, Imagine, and various international diversity networks.
After the presentation, attendees are invited to stay for lunch and informal discussions. There will also be an opportunity to speak individually with the speaker.
The event is supported by the Tübingen AI Center and forms part of the Campus Diversity Seminar series.
