IMPRS-IS holds orientation days for new Ph.D. students biannually to provide our scholars with valuable information regarding Ph.D program requirements. Scholars are also provided with useful information regarding residency in Tübingen and Stuttgart.
Starting a new Ph.D. program can be challenging! Plus, most of our IMPRS-IS scholars are relocating to a new city or even country. IMPRS-IS aims to help get our scholars adjusted through our biannual orientation days. Due to COVID-19 safety regulations, all 2021 orientation days will be offered virtually. At an orientation day, scholars can expect to learn more about IMPRS-IS program requirements. Specifically, we will answer questions such as: • What is a TAC? • When should I form one and how? • Do I need to register at one of IMPRS-IS' partner universities? • If so, when? How do you register? Scholars will learn more about IMPRS-IS resources such as: • German courses • Amenities like mensas and libraries • IMPRS-IS events and activities Representatives from the MPI-IS human resources department and international offices also provide information concerning: • Residency requirements in Germany • Health insurance, work visas, and other information pertinent to foreigners • Work contracts Scholars even learn about the value of intercultural communication and the importance of ethical practices in science. Finally, orientation days end with some time for socializing where new colleagues can mingle with one another.
We strongly encourage new scholars to participate in one of our IMPRS-IS orientation days. Our fall orientation day date will be announced soon. We will send out an official announcement email with a meeting link via our IMPRS-IS scholar mailing list prior to the event. For more details or questions, also feel free to reach out to Sara Sorce (imprs@is.mpg.de).
